PRK is like LASIK but no flap is involved. The surface of the cornea is painlessly removed by a blunt instrument or by laser under local anaesthesia. Subsequently, excimer laser is applied directly to reshape the cornea. This is a FDA-approved procedure for the US military, and also approved for selected Singapore Armed Forces personnel.

It is a precise and accurate procedure, however, the recovery time may take a little longer than LASIK.
