The Technolas™ 217z (Bausch and Lomb) is designed for patient comfort and is a widely used laser in Europe. The 100 Hz laser head uses cool ultra-violet light to reshape the cornea with the flying spot technique. With the Zylink software, the Zyoptix system is fast and safe. The laser incorporates iris recognition, an enhanced safety feature that ensures the correct eye is treated, and a fast, multi-dimensional eyetracker which compensates for eye movements during surgery.

This laser is capable of performing both customised (Zyoptix) and aspheric treatments. Zyoptix is designed to treat individual variations enabling customised LASIK to improve the quality of vision. Aspheric treatment profile is aimed at maintaining the natural curvature of the cornea after LASIK. This is especially useful for individuals with high degrees of myopia as it may reduce side effects such as night vision problems.
